We’re seeking a self-motivated, highly driven Engineering Manager to lead our Data Lake team. You’ll be at the helm of building and optimizing a cutting-edge platform that supports data-driven products and drives strategic outcomes for our customers. By delivering an extensible data and compute environment, you’ll ensure seamless access to mission-critical data sets. In this role, you'll collaborate closely with Machine Learning, Product Engineer, Business Intelligence, and Engineering leadership to ensure the platform meets the diverse needs of these teams. This hands-on role requires a balance of people management, technical oversight, and cross-functional leadership, making it ideal for a leader who excels in driving innovation and execution.

- Lead the technical vision for the Data Lake team, aligning with company goals and driving strategic outcomes through innovative data solutions.
- Oversee the design and implementation of high-throughput data solutions, ensuring that they are scalable, efficient, and capable of powering critical operations.
- Partner with teams across AI, ML, analytics, and other departments to enhance and expand our self-service data platform, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of the organization.
- Establish and uphold high standards for data quality, governance, and system integration, addressing complex distributed data challenges with robust solutions.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of continuous learning, experimentation, and collaboration.
- Balance and prioritize multiple projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business objectives while maintaining high standards of technical excellence.
About you
- You have at least 5+ years of industry experience in data engineering and software development, with a proven track record of solving complex big data challenges and delivering impactful solutions.
- You possess deep knowledge of data modeling, data access, and data replication techniques, and have hands-on experience with cloud-based Data Lakehouses.
- You are an outstanding coach and mentor, with a talent for developing high-performing teams and nurturing a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.
- You have a strong commitment to software quality, with a history of building reliable, high-uptime systems that meet and exceed performance expectations.
- You excel at translating business needs into well-defined projects, taking a hands-on approach to solution design, implementation, and execution.
- You are passionate about emerging technologies and have the ability to evaluate and choose the right tools and technologies to drive innovation while balancing practical considerations.
- You thrive in a collaborative environment, working effectively with cross-functional teams to align technical solutions with business goals and ensure cohesive execution.

- We sent 32 billion SMS messages in 2023, up 32% YoY. That’s an average of 87 million per day
- Our production cluster contains over 18,000 containers which serve 200+ services

What we use
- We use a wide variety of technology and we’re always looking for the best solutions to solve hard problems.
- Our backend is Java / Spring Boot microservices, built with Gradle, coupled with things like DynamoDB, Pulsar, AirFlow, Postgres, Planetscale, and Redis, hosted via AWS.
- Our frontend is built with React and TypeScript, and uses best practices like GraphQL, Storybook, Radix UI, Vite, esbuild, and PlaywrightV

- The US base salary range for this full-time position is $160,354 to $240,000 annually + equity + benefits
